In 1972 Sir George Dowty was planning for his new life in the Isle of Man.
The island was very familiar to him – followings his father’s premature death in 1913 his mother had gone to live on the Island and other family members were living there.
He had come to live in Cheltenham in 1924 meaning the move gave rise to some emotion.
On the 7th April 1972 he penned his life history on a single sheet of paper and passed to his secretary for typing.
His secretary is still alive and well and remembers typing this history paper and even the typewriter on which it was typed!
The history paper is attached.
