In Cheltenham several freemason’s Lodges meet, and the Lodge of which I am a member is called Perseverance Lodge No. 4554.
This October our Lodge celebrates its Centenary and we are delving into our archives to research the fabulous history of some very special people who were, have been or still are members.
Of these WW Dowty, Sir George’s elder brother stands out, not least as he was one of only 21 Founders way back in 1923
Sir George was duly initiated into our Lodge, clearly on the recommendation of his brother and we are extremely fortunate and proud to have this association with the Dowty family.
I ask therefore if you have any archive or information about the Dowtys’ membership, photos or similar that we could see and add (copies of) to our own records.
A celebration of our Centenary will take place in Cheltenham Town Hall on Saturday 21 October 2023 and we hope to share it with 400 guests making it a worthy event to honour the foresight of our Founders.
