Sir George Dowty - Blue Plaque
Sir George Herbert Dowty (27th March 1901 – 7th December 1975) was an English inventor and businessman.
Blue Plaque Location: Mews End, 10 Lansdown Terrace Lane, Cheltenham
Probably the most significant building in the lane is this coach house, from whose upper floor George Dowty started his engineering business in 1931 … it even has a little blue plaque.
In commemoration of the Dowty Family, who lived at Rembrandt House (now Persora) in Pershore High Street, George Dowty, the grandson of William Dowty, unveiled a Pershore Civic Society Blue Plaque on Sunday 19th November 2017. Both William Dowty (1856 – 1913), chemist, and his son Sir George Dowty (1901 – 1975) were pioneers of photography and aeronautics respectively
