VIP Visit - Rt Hon Reginald Maudling MP

Reginald Maudling was a British politician who held several Cabinet posts, including Chancellor of the Exchequer.

At his 1956 visit to celebrate Dowty’s 25 th anniversary he was Minister of Supply and a rising star in the Conservative party.

From 1955 until the late 1960s, he was spoken of as a prospective Conservative leader, and he was twice seriously considered for the post; he was Edward Heath’s chief rival in 1965.

He rose to Deputy Leader but resigned in 1972 under a cloud.

He made a comeback and remarked at the end of his career  “recruited by Winston Churchill but fired by Margaret Thatcher!”
