Dowty and Sex Discrimination!

Below is a copy of a Dowty Industrial Services job advertisement that appeared in the Gloucestershire Echo press during 1974.

Among the jobs on offer were Male Packers – no women allowed!

The law changed in 1975 with the introduction of The Sex Discrimination Act 1975 (c. 65) this was an Act of the Parliament in the United Kingdom which protected men and women from discrimination on the grounds of sex or marital status.

The Act concerned employment, training, education, harassment, the provision of goods and services, and the disposal of premises.

Gloucestershire Echo 1974 Male Packers Only - no women allowed. Yes, 1974 not 1774.
