Memories of my Grandmother at war!

My grandmother, Leslie Edith Doelberg was widowed in 1941 when her Royal Engineer husband was killed serving in Greece.

She lived in Cheltenham and worked at night for Rotol Airscrews in 1942.

It was her job to drive a van to collect parts from hidden away small workshops so they could be assembled elsewhere. This was so that if the factory was bombed, not everything was lost.

She was out in all weathers in an unheated van, trying to drive down country roads when all signage was removed and the headlights were tiny slits.

She got very cold and it had a bad effect on her health.

Sometimes my mum as a child was taken with her too and she slept on the floor!

I thought it would be nice if people like Leslie were recognised in some way, for their part of the war effort.
