Not everyone had a car in the 60’s/70’s and may have lived more than a bike ride away… so travelling by bus was a necessity.
At most, if not all the Dowty sites in the UK, subsidised charter buses were often provided for the employees, for both day and night shifts, buses were either provided by the local bus or private hire companies.
Employees would pay a nominal sum each week to travel, this would be significantly cheaper than the scheduled bus services.
