That in December 1979 Dowty was chosen by Westland Helicopters to design and develop the hydraulic system for the WG.34 helicopter (Anti-submarine warfare (ASW) helicopter project).

Management of the complete system and the associated simulator test rigs were centred at Dowty Boulton Paul’s Wolverhampton facility.
