Gresham Lion - Memories of Doug Baldwin

I joined Gresham Lion Group/ Gresham Transformers in their Twickenham Road works in Feltham in 1957 as a student apprentice and left them in 1966 when I was the area sales engineer for South Western England and Wales.

Latterly, I was based in Bristol and my main customers were Rank-Xerox in Mitcheldean, Raytheon in Poole Dorset and the Admiralty in Bath Somerset, although I did sell a few items to Dowty in Gloucestershire.

I mainly sold transformers but also transducers and other GLE electronic products.

At that time, John Coleman was the Chairman and owner, Peter Clegg the Managing Director, Norman Slack the sales director and Bob Gressley the chief engineer. Fred Knockolds was the factory manager.

I left to join GE in Canada and eventually ended up as President and CEO of Schneider Electric in Canada. Now happily retired at age 81.

I remember vividly the Twickenham works and office and the Greyhound Pub at the Chertsey Bypass roundabout.
