Frustrated by the inability of suppliers to provide high enough quality seals for the specialized demands of his products, Sir George decided to set up his own company to provide the highly engineered sealing systems he needed.
In addition he also sought to further exploit the group’s expertise by developing a portfolio of hydraulic pumps, motors, valves, rams and actuators, as well as pioneering hydrostatic transmission systems.
Booster-retarders were developed for railway marshalling yards and the group also launched a servo and systems company.
