Introducing the Dowty project

The project is part of a Heritage Lottery Funded project to transform Gloucestershire Archives into the Gloucestershire Heritage Hub, along with several project partners.

As part of this, a cataloguing archivist is spending two years working to catalogue, package and make accessible the vast Dowty archive which has been stored at Gloucestershire Archives since the late 1990s.

Along with volunteers, the cataloguing archivist is listing the collection to make it available to all kinds of researchers – family historians, local historians, business historians and others.

We are also collecting oral history memories from ex-employees of Dowty, have created this community website so people can share their stories, and will be running various events during the course of the project.

The aim is that the Dowty archive and memories of the company will be kept permanently through the records at the archives and the website which will be a lasting legacy.

If you have any questions about the archive, or if you’d like to get involved, please email us on info@dowtyheritage.org.uk
