Sir George Dowty - Honorary Freeman

On October 4th 1964 a joint meeting in Cheltenham of the Borough Councils of Cheltenham and Tewkesbury honoured Sir George Dowty, an Honorary Freeman of both Boroughs, to mark the 40th Anniversary of his founding of the Dowty Group of Companies.

Sir George was also honoured by being elected Freeman of the City of London in August 1944 at a luncheon with SIr Stafford Cripps and other dignitaries.

  • Town Clerk for Tewkesbury, Name Incorrect , it is Mr KE Smale , not Snale. I new Mr Smale, he lived in Priors Park , Tewkesbury
