  • My father was Roof Control Officer at the Bargoed colliery back in the 1960’s. His name was Kenneth Charles Jones and he either invented a new key for one of the props or he came up with an improvement for the key which made the operation of the props easier with one tool, when I was younger my mother showed me the sketches he had done and the letter from the Mine Manager and one from Dowty giving him a £50 award for his invention which I believe was taken up by Dowty and manufactured for a while.
