Dowty Electronics - Synopsis

In the late 1970s Dowty acquired Ultra Electronics, which became the basis of the new Electronic systems division.

This division added communications, control systems, software and computer equipment to the group’s portfolio and its product range included sonobuoys, nuclear power plant control systems, and early personal messaging systems for businesses.

The division supplied products to industry, commerce and the armed forces.

In 1969 Dowty Electrics had 400 employees
