VIP Visit - Admiral Sir Julian Oswald

Admiral Sir Julian Oswald, Chief of Naval Staff & First Sea Lord on a visit to Dowty Fuel Systems

ADMIRAL of the Fleet Sir Julian Oswald was the inspirational First Sea Lord during the 1991 Gulf War and the Navy commander who introduced the women-at-sea policy.

He was First Sea Lord from May 1989 to March 1993 when there were demands for a peace dividend and a major review of defence policy by the Conservative government, called Options for Change, a fundamental review of front-line commitments and the size and shape of British armed forces in the wake of the collapse of the Soviet Union.
