Memories of Dowty Fuel Systems by Simon Thorpe
I really appreciate the work you are doing pulling together the archive of Dowty material.
I stumbled across this the other day and thought I’d send it through.
I was a graduate engineering apprentice back 1988 and really enjoyed my time at Dowty Fuel Systems. It was challenging times for the business with rolling redundancies and continuous change.
For a young engineer however it was a great place for me to start my career and the graduate training program was way ahead of its time.
With the support of the company I managed to transfer to DAAS in Singapore, where I worked for 3 years, and then to Messier-Dowty Toronto for another 3 years.
After leaving Dowty I’ve spent most of my time consulting in the airline industry.
During my time at Dowty Fuel Systems, I met my Australian wife who was doing some temp work in the Accounts department. We’re still married after 30 years and now live in Brisbane with our two grown up children – both graduate engineers.
Cheers
Simon Thorpe
