The Bristol 188

The Bristol 188 was a British supersonic research aircraft built by the Bristol Aeroplane Company in the 1950s. Its length, slender cross-section and intended purpose led to its being nicknamed the “Flaming Pencil”

Powerplant was the de Havilland Gyron Junior DGJ.10R, which combines great supersonic thrust with minimum frontal area. Equipment included a fuel/oil heat exchanger, a Dowty fuel and control system and high-augmentation after-burner
